Анотація
Стаття досліджує термін Exemplum, його численні трактування, еволюцію та значення в різних культурних контекстах від античності до ранньомодерного періоду. Exemplum спершу використовувався античними риторами, а згодом став ключовим елементом християнських проповідей та інструментом морального наставлення впродовж Середньовіччя. Завдяки зусиллям таких фахівців, як Броніслав Ґеремек і Жак Лє Гофф, розкрито модифікацію функцій Exemplum в умовах соціальних і культурних змін. Особлива увага приділяється переходу від риторичних та релігійних аспектів до світського застосування цього виду джерел, що спостерігається у ранньомодерний період. Деякі дослідники (М.-А. Польо де Больйо та Ж. Берліоз) розглядають трансформації Exemplum в контексті розвитку міської культури та еволюції церковних інститутів. Текст також висвітлює внесок жебручих орденів у поширення цього виду джерел шляхом проповідей та еволюції Exemplum від усної до писемної традиції, в тому числі завдяки друкарству. Останнє сприяло подальшому поширенню Exemplum в європейській культурі. Важливими аспектами теми є формування різних типів Exemplum, їхня адаптація до потреб релігійного та суспільного виховання.
The article explores the term Exemplum, its multiple interpretations, evolution, and meaning in different cultural contexts from antiquity to the early modern period. Initially, ancient rhetoricians used Exemplum, and later, it became an essential element of Christian sermons and a tool of moral admonishment throughout the Middle Ages. Thanks to the efforts of such specialists as Bronislaw Geremek and Jacques Le Goff, the modification of Exemplum functions in the context of social and cultural changes has been revealed. One paid particular attention to the transition from rhetorical and religious aspects to the secular application of this type of source, remarkable in the early modern period. Some researchers (M.-A. Polo de Beaulieu and J. Berlioz) consider the transformations of the Exemplum in light of the urban culture development and the church institutions' evolution. The article also refers to the contribution of mendicant orders to disseminating this type of source through sermons and the Exempli evolution from oral to written tradition (e.g., owing to printing). The latter contributed to the further spread of Exemplum in European culture. Crucial aspects are the formation of different Exemplorum types and their adaptation to religious and social education needs.
