    У статті проаналізовано вплив бурхливого розвитку промисловості у Західній Європі на зламі ХІХ – ХХ ст. на перегляд підходів до форми та змісту університетської освіти. За рахунок гармонійного поєднання освітньої та наукової складової в їх роботі вдалося підготувати значну кількість високоякісних фахівців, які науковими розробками сприяли економічному зростанню своїх країн. The article analyzes the impact of the rapid development of industry in Western Europe at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. to review approaches to the form and content of university education. Due to the harmonious combination of educational and scientific components in their work, it was possible to train a significant number of high-quality specialists who contributed to the economic growth of their countries with scientific developments.

    У роботі аналізується процес трансформації функціонального призначення європейських міст упродовж ХХ – початку ХХІ ст. Розкрито особливості соціально-економічного, політичного і культурного розвитку міст на зламі ХIХ – ХХ століть; проаналізовано урбанізаційні процеси у країнах Європи протягом ХХ ст., виявлено причини ускладнення функцій міст упродовж цього часу; вивчено вплив глобалізаційних процесів на функціональне призначення міст наприкінці XX – на початку XXI ст. The work analyzes the process of transformation of the functional purpose of European cities during the 20th and early 21st centuries. The peculiarities of socio-economic, political and cultural development of cities at the turn of the19thand 20th centuries are revealed; the urbanization processes in European countries during the 20th century were analyzed, the reasons for the complication of the functions of cities during this time were identified; the impact of globalization processes on the functional purpose of cities at the end of the 20th- at the beginning of the 21st century was studied.
